Awareness Day is a big success
Thanks to everyone who came along and supported York Against Cancer at our annual awareness day and collection in York city centre.
Staff and volunteers were delighted by the public response to the event and in spite of rainy interludes almost £2,000 was raised through public donations and the sale of cards and cakes.
We had wonderful assistance from the scientists at the University of York’s Jack Birch Unit, who amazed the public by extracting DNA from strawberries, and from the staff of the York Cancer Care Centre, who came along to show the headwear they offer for cancer patients losing their hair.
We are very grateful to the musicians of Shepherd’s Brass Band, Sister Madly and the Grand Old Uke of York, who rocked the city centre with their toe-tapping tunes.
