Volunteer with York Against Cancer

At York Against Cancer, we feel privileged to have a dedicated band of volunteers. We are one big team, all with the same aim in mind, to raise money which will be spent in the local area on providing important cancer services to local people. In fact, our volunteers' work is so wonderful that they have been recognised with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service – the highest award for volunteering that the country can bestow.

There are exciting times ahead for us, and as we look to the future we would like to invite more people to join our ranks. Very soon, we’ll be moving to our new, purpose-built headquarters at the Monks Cross community complex, where we’ll have a brand new, bigger shop open seven days a week. We believe our position in the heart of the complex will attract new visitors, so we'll be able to reach more people than ever before. At the same time our services are growing, with initiatives such as our mobile chemotherapy unit serving north and east Yorkshire and our dermatoscopes project which is helping fight skin cancer throughout the Vale of York.

We would love to hear from you if you can help us achieve our goals. Could you help run our new shop? Maybe you can help at collections or at events, or perhaps you’d like to bake for us or volunteer as a driver. We need people who would like to try to get more of our collecting cans into shops and businesses, or represent us at functions and presentations.

If you have experience of giving presentations, could you give talks about us to groups or businesses? Could you establish a support group in a local community or promote us through social media to friends and relatives?

Many of our volunteers, unfortunately, have had first-hand experience of cancer, and volunteering at the charity allows them to give something back. Another important reason for volunteering for some people is that they find they have spare time on their hands and want to be kept busy. If you, like them, need a focus, at York Against Cancer we can help with that!

Maybe some of your friends or relatives might like to lend us a hand, too. Would you be able to introduce new volunteers to York Against Cancer?
