Choir hits the high notes to raise cash for us

A group of kind-hearted women have been singing their hearts out to raise money for us - and they’ve given us £1,000.

The ladies of the Stamford Bridge Community Choir were inspired in their fundraising by member Sue Exley, who has cancer and who has used a number of York Against Cancer’s services.

Choir leader Rachel Whittaker said members supported a charity each year and they had been delighted to support us this time. “We’re a bit of a family, so we wanted to do something in honour of Sue,”   she said.

The choir held a concert at St John’s Church in Stamford Bridge, which was attended by around 150 people. Members also sang for the Women of Wilberfoss WI and the Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association, with both groups giving donations in return. “We don’t charge to sing, we have too much fun!” said Rachel.  “But people have been very generous.”

Julie Russell, our general manager, said she was touched that the choir had chosen to raise money for us and delighted that it had been so successful. “It will really help our work,” she said.
