Duo marks decade together with fundraiser for YAC

A York singing duo is marking ten years together with a celebration to raise money for York Against Cancer.

The Primal Suspects, aka Mark Hopwood and Dave Brough, hadn’t realised that they had been entertaining weddings and other functions for a decade until the landmark was almost upon them.

They decided to hold a gig to celebrate their anniversary with their regular supporters and friends and they managed to secure Bishopthorpe Social Club as a venue free of charge.

The concert will be free to attend but the band will be encouraging donations throughout the night in support of our charity, which Dave wanted to support following the loss of his dad, also called Dave, last year following a long battle against cancer. Dave’s wife Lisa also lost her dad Frank Maxwell to the disease around 20 years ago. Close friends from York have also recently lost loved ones making us an even more appropriate choice.

“York Against Cancer was the first charity we thought of,” said Dave. “It’s a cancer charity and it is part of York, which is where both Mark and I are from. Cancer touches everybody’s lives so we thought it would be a really good cause to raise money for.”

Dave and Mark play guitar and sing, with a repertoire that stretches from ‘50s Elvis or Chuck Berry classics to modern-day hits from stars like Olly Murs or Pharrell Williams.

The first part of their gig on Friday March 22 will be acoustic, with a second electric set given a party feel to get everyone up and dancing.
