Hobbling home in triumph!

Well done to the scientists, Santander team and long-distance walkers who took on the fearsome Hambleton Hobble to raise thousands for us.

Staff at the University of York’s Jack Birch Unit joined the Irregulars group of long-distance walkers to brave scorching summer temperatures, walking the 30-mile course in an impressive 13 hours.

Joining the walk were Jeff and Pat Coulson, who successfully completed the Hobble with daughter Kate to support us after Jeff was treated for bladder cancer late last year.  Kate’s Santander team-mates, Nicola and Sarah, were also successful and Sarah’s dad, another bladder cancer survivor, joined in for part of the walk.  Bladder cancer research is the speciality of the JBU, so it was particularly fitting that together the team expect to raise well over £5,000.

 “We had a really successful day,” said Pat Coulson. “Everyone enjoyed the walk despite the heat – at least we had a bit of a breeze and occasional shade in the woods.

“The five refreshment points provided by members of the Irregulars walking group were really appreciated and we are very grateful to Tesco Clifton Moor and Tadcaster Road for the gift vouchers that helped to buy the food and drink.”
