Join the fun in Bishy Road this Father's Day!

Bishopthorpe Road traders have joined forces with us to bring an exciting day of fundraising and fun to York.

Businesses in Bishy Road, one of Britain’s coolest streets, are throwing their weight behind the annual R U Taking the P? 5K race.

The males-only event to raise cash for prostate cancer research and for our work has been given permission to start and finish in Bishopthorpe Road this year, and the traders are holding a street party to make it a day-long attraction.

Taking place on Father’s Day, Sunday June 17, the event will be a true family affair, said Bishy Road Traders’ Association chairman Beppe Lombardo of Trinacria Sicilian Café Bar.

Beppe said children’s attractions, music and sport were planned and he hoped thousands of spectators and shoppers would come along to enjoy the carnival atmosphere. The traders would be supporting the two good causes throughout the day to boost the fundraising further.

Around 300 runners took part in RUTTP? last year and organisers hope even more will be attracted to take part in 2018. Individual entries to run or walk the course cost £17 and father-and-son teams cost £25 provided the son is aged eight to 16.

“Don’t forget to book the date June 17 in your calendar,” said Beppe. “We’re looking forward to a day out to remember!”

Julie Russell, general manager of York Against Cancer, thanked Beppe and his fellow traders for helping make RUTTP? a red-letter event. “It’s sure to increase the fundraising and it will give the runners a real boost to start and finish in such a vibrant atmosphere,” she said. “It should be a fabulous day for everyone.”
