Office manager Jan Wilford bids farewell to York Against Cancer

We’re really sad to say our lovely Office Manager Jan Wilford has left us after nine years.

It is an exciting time for Jan, who is going to live in France with her partner Geoff Brookes, but we will greatly miss the friendship and expertise she has shared with us over the years. We will also miss the knowledge and support of Geoff, a valued member of our education committee.

Jan came to us after spending 20 years as a hairdresser before working for Barclays Bank and North Yorkshire County Council in finance and administrative roles.  She applied for the job after it fell vacant because her predecessor Julie Russell had become our general manager.

Jan said while she was very much looking forward to her new life in the Poitiers-Charente area of France, she would miss her time at York Against Cancer.

“I’ve been completely absorbed in it for the last nine years,” she said. “It’s a fantastic charity, a little charity that packs a big punch, and long may its success continue!”

Julie said: “Jan joined YAC just as I became the general manager and from day one she became my right-hand woman. 

“Working for YAC has its sad side but over the last nine years Jan and I have found lots to laugh about and have had some really good times. Bon voyage!”

Jan’s successor as office manager is her colleague Heather Atkinson, and aspects of her role have been taken on by other members of the York Against Cancer team.
