Rotarians and classic car fans boost our fortunes
A feast for motoring fans is on the cards later this month as organisers stage a great day out for our charity.
Weighton Wolds Rotary Club has joined forces with Langlands Garden Centre, on the A1079 at Shiptonthorpe, to hold a fabulous classic car show over the Sunday and Monday of the August Bank Holiday, August 26 and 27.
Organisers are expecting between 100-120 cars on the Sunday and around 80 on the Monday, according to John Ducker, Director of Langlands.
“They come from all over to take part,” said John. “Last year we had a big American car from Hull whose owners joined in when they saw the show as they were passing. They ended up staying all day!”
John, a Rotarian and the owner of two classic cars, has also gathered local support from other owners, including Tony and Harry Kipling, Carol Watson, Mike Denham and Richard Webster.
Their vehicles include a 1968 MGB, a 1966 MGB roadster, a 1935 supercharged MGNE, a 1933 London taxi, a 1934 Rolls 20/25 Barker de Ville and a 1971 MGB.
All will be on display during the show which runs 10am to 4pm on August 26 and 27 at Langlands Garden Centre, Shiptonthorpe YO43 3PN.
“We still have room for more cars,” said John. “It’s free to enter and all cars go into a prize draw sponsored by Langlands on the Sunday. There’s also the Ian Peak Memorial trophy for the best pre-war car and a car valet from Drake’s Garage for the people’s choice.”
On the Sunday, music will be provided by The Buckrose Concert Band and on both days there will be a raffle, food and a tombola.
Entry to the event is by donation to York Against Cancer and the money will be a further boost for the charity from the Rotarians after 14 of the group took part in this year’s R U Taking The P? race in their support.
