Two York businessmen are swapping sharp suits for running gear as they take on a gruelling challenge to raise money for York Against Cancer.
Lee Stephens, MD of employment solicitors and HR specialists BRIDGE Employment Law, is being joined by the firm’s business development manager Andrew Johnson in tackling a half-marathon every month for six months.
They are asking supporters to back their efforts by donating cash through their justgiving page, https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bridge-employment-law-giving-page, and they’re setting themselves a £1,500 fundraising target.
They are generously offering to double the donations to give our charity a really significant boost.
Lee said: “We will run, shuffle and crawl every month for six months because this is a great Yorkshire charity and too many people are affected by cancer and too many of them need help.
“I personally know a couple of people who have been affected by cancer over the last 12-18 months. We already support local charities but we wanted to support a cancer charity in York.
“We thought we would combine our limited skill sets and we can run, which is only walking, but faster!
“I used to run quite a lot and Andrew used to run when he was in the Navy so we decided to put ourselves through six months of it.”
The pair eased their way into their challenge with the Yorkshire 10-mile run before completing 13-mile runs around Yorkshire and Northumberland.
Their next race will be the Gargrave Half-Marathon on January 19 and they are calling on supporters to add to the £350 they have already gathered in donations.
Julie Russell, our general manager, praised the pair for their ambitious work on our behalf. “It’s a really tough challenge and we’re full of admiration,” she said. “We’ll make sure everything they raise goes to help our cause.”
