Sofia melts our hearts

We’re lucky at York Against Cancer to get lots of touching donations, but when we opened our post recently we found a really lovely letter from a little girl called Sofia.

Not only had she taken the time to make the letter beautiful with drawings and her excellent handwriting, but she told us she had raised £11.89 to repay us for helping her grandad, who used our minibus when going from York to Leeds for radiotherapy.

She told us her grandad had sadly passed away, but she wanted to thank us. “You do an amazing job,” she wrote. “Please carry on helping people and giving them better lives.”

Well, we had to find out more, so we got in touch with Sofia, who’s nine,  and discovered that not only had she held sales of plants on her nana’s drive and done jobs around the house to fundraise, but she had even given us donations from her pocket money.

“I was quite impressed when Sofia said she wanted to do this,” said her mum, Jane. “She did such a good job, and I am really proud of her.”

 We’re really impressed too, Sofia. Your money will help us take other people to Leeds for their treatment, so thank you very much indeed.
