Volunteer Pat wears her Queen's Award badge with pride

20th September 2017

Pat Gilbank’s one of our great band of volunteers and she was thrilled to receive her Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service badge.

Pat has worked for York Against Cancer for about four years, having lost her husband, Fred, to cancer 10 years ago.

Fred had used some of our services and Pat has been delighted to join us in street collections as well as at St Crux, our city-centre charity sale and in our fundraising efforts at Marks & Spencer, Pavement, where we are currently Charity of the Year.

“I was really surprised and delighted when we won the Queen’s Award,” says Pat. “It really does feel like an MBE. I have a neighbour who was in the Army and he has a lot of medals. When he heard about the award he told me to wear it with pride – and I do!”
