A team of York legal experts have thrown their weight behind a year-long campaign of support for our charity.
Corries Solicitors Ltd, of Melrose Yard, Walmgate, have chosen York Against Cancer to become their charity of the year for 2020 and are planning a string of fundraising events as well as offering practical help to the charity over the coming year.
Solicitor and Director Howard Bonnett ran the ASDA Foundation York 10K for us last summer and plans to tackle it again this August to support our work in local cancer care, research and education. “I’m also hoping to rope some other people in with me this time!” he said.
Other events being planned by Corries include cake sales and coffee mornings to take place throughout the year, and the firm is offering Easter goodies and later in the year a Christmas hamper, all to be raffled off to raise funds.
Staff from Corries are hoping to get involved in volunteering by helping at York Against Cancer linked events throughout the year as well as assisting with the charity’s move from its current base in Huntington to the new Monks Cross stadium complex.
“Like most organisations, Corries knows people who have been touched by cancer, some of whom have used York Against Cancer’s services,” said Howard. “It is a cause very close to our hearts and it directly benefits local people.
“In some areas of our work, such as with asbestos claims, we see people who are living with cancer, so we felt this was a good fit for us.”
Julie Russell, our General Manager, welcomed the news of Corries’ decision to support us. “It means so much when local companies offer fundraising and practical support like this,” she said. “With our move to the new stadium getting ever closer, the news couldn’t come at a better time.”
