Olde Cranks rise to the challenge
They may call themselves the Olde Cranks, but Brian Dunn and his five fellow cyclists were more than equal to the tough bike ride they tackled to make money for us.
Brian, who was treated for bowel cancer three years ago, took on a ride from Scarborough to York and back with his son Marcus. The other four men, Neil Greenhalgh, Robert Bamford and Mike and Greg Norman, were also participating after being affected directly or indirectly by the disease.
“It was hard work but we did it,” said Brian, “and the weather was both kind and cruel. On the Saturday there was no rain, but it was hot. We got to Scarborough and most people were feeling pretty good, but on Sunday morning the tiredness kicked in. It was sunny, but into a stiff breeze the whole time.”
Nothing daunted, the team dug deep and completed their challenge of cycling more than 120 miles, and they’ve have done us proud by raising more than £3,000 for us in our 30th anniversary year.
