Sainsbury’s Monkscross hosts launch event for new Local Charity partner York Against Cancer
Sainsbury’s Monkscross has officially launched a partnership with York Against Cancer as its new Local Charity of the Year.
We were chosen by Sainsbury’s customers through a public vote in store and online in June, and we will now receive a year’s worth of support through fundraising and awareness-raising from the store.
We joined Sainsbury’s colleagues to kick-start the partnership with three solid days of fundraising from Friday last week. There to mark the start of the activities was our minibus, which is used to take patients to Leeds for radiotherapy sessions.
Julie Russell, our general manager, said the support from Sainsbury’s and its customers was particularly welcome in our 30th anniversary year.
She said: “We’re really excited to have been chosen as the store’s new Local Charity of the Year, as the partnership will help us to reach our £100,000 Anniversary Appeal target.
“The money will support the running of our minibus’s sister vehicle, a brand new mobile chemotherapy unit taking treatment closer to home for patients across North and East Yorkshire while easing pressure on York and Scarborough Hospitals.”
James Dale, store manager at Sainsbury’s Monkscross, added: “Sainsburys Monkscross is proud to be working in partnership with York Against Cancer – a charity at the heart of our local community.
“I’d like to thank all of our customers for their support and I can’t wait to see how the partnership develops over the next year.”
