Ryedale women hold prestigious event for us at Talbot Hotel, Malton
Ryedale women Dee Lynes and Shirley Brewer are organising an amazing event for York Against Cancer, inspired by the loss of a friend who benefited from our services.
Dee has enlisted the prestigious Talbot Hotel, Malton, to host a delicious afternoon tea party for 180 in their fabulous marquee at historic York House.
They are also organising a Whoop Whoop! 2018 Prize Draw with winners announced at the party and have already snapped up two fabulous prizes: an exclusive £900 Christmas Markets break in Prague for two people from Ryedale holiday company Inntravel, and a £1,000 bespoke private master class for up to eight at Malton Cookery School, led by head tutor Gilly Robinson.
Dee and Shirley are doing it in memory of their friend, Donna, who died of cancer earlier this year.
Donna, also of Ryedale, had enjoyed a respite trip to our Whitby apartment, and Shirley says our mobile chemotherapy unit would have helped her, as she had travelled long distances for treatment.
“Donna was hugely inspiring,” said Dee. “She was always so positive and made the most of every single day. Donna loved afternoon tea, and we loved Donna, so that’s why we wanted to do this. When she was having a good day she would text ‘Whoop Whoop!’, so we’re calling this the Whoop Whoop! Afternoon Tea Party.
“We’ve been amazed by the level of support that The Talbot have offered and we’re really looking forward to working with them to make this a fantastic community event in Malton’s food calendar. Together with Inntravel and the Malton Cookery School, they’ve given us a fantastic start for our Prize Draw, too.”
David Macdonald, General Manager at The Talbot, said they were delighted to host the party. “Unfortunately, it’s impossible for us to do everything we’re asked to do, but I knew straight away this was exactly the sort of thing we should get involved with. Afternoon tea is in vogue at the moment, our marquee is a perfect setting and most importantly, this is such a wonderful cause.”
Simon Wrench, Head of Marketing at Inntravel, said: “This just struck us as a wonderful thing to do for a friend. As a company we like to do things for the communities where we offer holidays, and the slow holiday ethos gives people space and time to appreciate what’s important, which is the spirit behind this event, too.”
The Whoop Whoop! 2018 Afternoon Tea takes place at The Talbot, Malton, on September 16, 2018, and tickets, priced £25, are on sale through the hotel’s website, www.talbotmalton.co.uk from September 16 2017.
