Ladies at Serendipity Gym

Serendipity Gym's big charity effort

17th April 2018

Fitness fans have come to our aid with a gruelling classathon event that’s so far raised £2,324 for us.

The ladies of Serendipity Gym, Micklegate, Selby, paid or raised sponsorship money to participate in classes over a full weekend, and notched up a mighty 70,000 minutes of rowing time during the 48 hours. That’s the equivalent of rowing the English Channel and back!

“It went very well,” said gym owner Sarah Tremble. “It was tiring, but it was really, really good.”

Sarah said her partner Nick Potts helped out by staging a sponsored static cycling challenge, ‘biking’ the equivalent of the national three peaks route of 485 miles.

Nick’s mum died of ovarian cancer and had stayed at our Whitby apartment during her illness, said Sarah. “It did her a lot of good,” she said. “She loved it.”

It’s the third year that the gym has supported us with fundraising events, said Sarah. In total over those three years around £5,600 has been raised for us.

“Well done to everyone at Serendipity Gym,” said Julie Russell, our general manager. “It’s fundraising like this that enables us to make a real difference to the lives of people living with cancer, and we’re really grateful.”
