Soapbox Challenge a moneyspinner for our charity

It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it! Steve Kershaw is pictured hard at work on his entry for this year’s Micklegate Soapbox Challenge, which takes to the street in York city centre next Monday.

Steve is hoping his business, York Digital Image, will see a repeat of its winning ways when it takes on the challenge for us.

York Digital Image won the 2017 Micklegate Soapbox Challenge, the colourful carting event that draws crowds to York city centre on the August bank holiday weekend.

The winning machine, crafted in the shape of a beer bottle, was the fastest hurtling down the Micklegate cobbles last summer, and this year’s soapbox will be inspired by Bullet Bill from the Mario Kart game.

Steve will be raising money for us by inviting families along to have their children’s pictures taken with the soapbox in return for a charity donation.

He said the design of this year’s machine had been chosen by his own children.

Team members would be dressing up as characters from the game and they were looking forward to putting the soapbox through its paces on Monday August 27.

“We’ll be there in our gazebo if people want to come along and get their picture taken with Bullet Bill,” he said. “We’d like to raise some money for York Against Cancer – it’s a very good cause and it’s local.”

The Soapbox Challenge runs in Micklegate from 10am-5pm on Monday August 27.
