Award-winning pastry chef Florian Poirot has put the icing on the cake for an exciting event to raise cash for us.

Florian, whose patisserie is in Talbot Yard, Malton, is providing his world-class macarons for the whoopWHOOP! 2018 afternoon tea party, a fabulous gathering at the town’s Talbot Hotel in aid of our work in cancer care, research and education.

Ryedale women Dee Lynes and Shirley Brewer are organising the event in honour of their late friend Donna, who had benefited from the charity’s services.

The Talbot, one of North Yorkshire’s leading hotels, has provided a stunning marquee as a venue.

Hotel Manager David Macdonald also gave Dee and Shirley a £1,000 raffle prize of a bespoke master class for up to eight at Malton Cookery School, and 24 other top businesses came up with prizes including a three-night Christmas break for two to Prague from Ryedale travel firm Inntravel.

The prizes are all up for grabs when the raffle is drawn at the tea party, where delicious food will include macarons from Florian, 2017 winner of the best sugar showpiece at the World Pastry Cup.

“It’s a good way of raising money for charity and I’m just opposite the hotel, so I’m pleased to support them,” said Florian. “I’m not sure what flavour the macarons will be yet – if it is my choice it will be salted caramel. That’s the most popular!”

Dee and Shirley said they were touched by the support shown by Florian and other businesses to their cause.

“The response from our business community has been amazing! So many businesses are supporting us on the day either by donating ingredients or services like filming the event or providing flowers – even a local milkman is providing the milk!”, said Dee.

All proceeds from the event go to York Against Cancer, whose services include an award-winning mobile chemotherapy unit serving Ryedale, Scarborough and other parts of north and east Yorkshire.
