Cheers to prostate cancer awareness!

The Roaring Twenties are coming to Bishopthorpe Road this weekend when prostate cancer survivor David Cordukes and son-in-law David Appleby take on a charity run as Great Gatsby-inspired characters.
They will be joined by family members in Jazz Age fancy dress on the starting line for this year’s R U Taking The P..?, the annual run that raises money for research into prostate cancer and for the care, education and research work of local charity York Against Cancer.
David has taken part in the males-only 5K almost every year since it launched. He and his group have always worn eye-catching outfits ranging from horror film characters to ostriches, gorillas, Compo and Nora Batty and John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.
“It’s 15 years now since my cancer was found and I feel extremely luck that it was caught early,” said David. “I think this event is a great chance to raise awareness among men about prostate cancer.”
R U taking the P..? was founded by York fundraiser Brian Hughes, who was inspired to action after losing a friend to prostate cancer.
The race always takes place on Father’s Day, at the end of International Men’s Health Week. This year is the 10th anniversary race and Brian is hoping for a record turnout and fundraising total.
There’s still time to sign up for this year’s event – the deadline for online entries is midnight on Thursday (JUNE 13) through York Against Cancer’s website on https://www.yorkagainstcancer.org.uk/events/r-u-taking-p-sunday-june-16
Competitors can also join the race by turning up at the registration tent by 9.15am on Sunday (June 16). Individual entries cost £17 with father-and-son entries costing £25 where the son is aged eight-16.
