Jack Birch Unit Update

Back in the Lab!

15th July 2020

It is very exciting to be back in the JBU laboratory. It has been a long time since we were all last here and although the place hasn’t changed it is eerily quiet! I’ve been doing preparation work this week with Dr Jenny Hinley making sure we can work safely when we return and switching on and checking over the equipment ready for use next week.

Firstly, the labs needed a good clean; floors and benches have been swept and wiped and it is now filled with that pine-fresh scent. Our cell culture lab has been decontaminated ready for fresh stocks of cells to be brought up from their frozen slumbers. We have put up signs around the labs and office areas specifying restrictions as we have limited numbers of people working at any one time in designated areas of the labs to enable safe social distancing. We all have our own PPE in addition to our usual lab coat and there are reminders for hand washing or use of hand sanitisers.

There are going to be plenty of challenges to overcome as we return but it is great to be here again!
