York Rocks For us
York Rocks is a fabulous annual fundraising concert that has raised many thousands of pounds for York Against Cancer over the years.
Organised by keen musician and charity supporter Ian Surgenor, the event at the Grand Opera House in York is regularly backed by stars from ITV’s Emmerdale, who take to the stage as comperes and performers.
Leading figures from the York music scene are also often on stage – Rick Witter of hit indie band Shed Seven and Chris Helme, formerly of The Seahorses, were among those who entertained a packed house in 2016.
Up and coming local acts also performed, helping us make almost £7,000 for our important research, care and education programmes.
Organiser Ian Surgenor said he had been blown away by the generosity of all who had supported the 2016 event, from the paying customers to everyone who gave their time free of charge both on and off the stage.
“There was such a great camaraderie on stage and behind the scenes with everybody supporting each other. I’d like to thank everyone who played a part in making the night so successful.”
Sponsors of the event included Rowley & Sons funeral directors; The Green Tree public house; Yorvik Carpets; York Fake Festivals; Yorkshire Building Society; Streamline Taxis; MPH Inspections; Plonkers wine bar; The Edinburgh Arms; Rabbit Hill Country Sports; Wrapped; Acomb Conservative Club and Skybet.
