Dawn’s inspirational!Charity’s a piece of cake for Emily
Great British Bake Off fan Emily Wilkinson aged 8, from Escrick near York, transformed the street outside her house into a café selling cakes she had made herself to raise money for York Against Cancer.Emily said: “I just wanted to help a charity that helped people in York. I know lots of my friends like cakes and most of them live quite near me, so I just held it outside my house. I set it up like a café with chairs and tables, and people came along and sat down and ate the cakes. At the end, I had about ten left and the cakes were 50p each.”
Emily made a fantastic £64.10 for York Against Cancer with her pavement café, and her mum Amanda Wilkinson said she was delighted with her daughter.
“Emily is a Brownie and I think they are encouraging them to take a lot of responsibility. She is working towards a lot of badges and that prepared her. She needed to put a plan together, but it totally came from her. She loves baking and she likes the Bake Off and she just wanted to do it for a charity. I was very proud of her - she did really well.”
