Screening to prevent cancer

Screening may lead to the early detection of cancer

Screening is a process to identify people who may not have symptoms, but who may have early cancer or be at increased risk of developing cancer.

Screening may lead to the early detection of cancer. This can mean more effective treatment and reduced adverse effects.

For more detailed information about screening please visit the NHS Choices website: www.nhs.uk/livewell/screening

There are currently three national NHS screening programmes, for breast, bowel and cervical cancers.

Cancer Awareness and Prevention

Working closely with doctor’s surgeries, groups and many local schools our work raises awareness of cancer, helping to increase the likelihood of early detection and prevention.

Groundbreaking cancer research

Cancer research has always been at the heart of our work. We fund vital research projects into bladder, prostate and other types of cancers. Our five-year £1 million research programme supports the Jack Birch Unit at the University of York.

Care and support

We are here to help. Whether you or a loved one is affected by cancer, we can offer information resources as well as a number of practical support services.
