About our respite homes
We understand cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery can be a very difficult process for both patients and their loved ones. Normal family life and routine is often disturbed by the strain of regular medical treatment and a break away from it all is often invaluable. Time away to relax, regroup and recharge in a comfortable environment can help enormously.
We have two seaside homes, one in Whitby and one in Filey. Both are available to any cancer patient being treated by the York Hospital Trust to go away with their loved ones for a three- or four-night stay, whether they have just been diagnosed, are in the midst of or have just finished treatment.
Both of the apartments are near enough to York to make travelling there not too difficult but their coastal locations make them a welcome change. You feel like you’re away but with the security of being close to home.
Whitby
44 Metropole Towers, Argyle Road, Whitby
Our Whitby apartment overlooks the seafront and provides amazing views of the coastline. You can see from Sandsend in the west to the historic Abbey in the east. There is a wealth of activities, beauty spots and entertainment available in Whitby and the surrounding area for you and your family to enjoy.
The apartment has three bedrooms, two double rooms and one twin room, and sleeps six people. It is fully furnished to a very high standard to give a touch of luxury in a really homely environment. The apartment is on the fourth floor and is accessible by both stairs and a lift.
Only guide dogs can be accommodated. No smoking.
Filey
Our Filey house opened in 2017 and is part of an award-winning coastal holiday village, The Bay.
The village is set in parkland, woodland and meadows and fronts onto a stunning stretch of the east coast. Its stylish homes enjoy private beach access and have been beautifully designed with contemporary and stylish interiors.
Our house has four bedrooms, including three doubles and a master suite. One of the ensuite bedrooms is downstairs, making it perfect for disabled visitors. There’s also an ensuite wet room and a house bathroom.
Panoramic windows with large French doors lead from the lounge onto a sun terrace and the master bedroom has its own balcony.
As well as Filey, just three miles away, there’s a wonderful sandy beach on the doorstep, plus meadows and lakes around which to relax. There is a fantastic leisure complex and pool, a pub and restaurant and a pizzeria.
